JOHORE FIRST EPOCH
Johore Lama

01. Sultan Aladdin Riayat Shah II., Raja Ali or Sultan Muda, son of Sultan Mahmud Shah I of Malacca, founded Johore at Kota Tinggi in 1540 A.C. - 947 H. (vide GT3)

02. Sultan Muzafar Shah, Raja Muzafar Shah, succeeded his father, Sultan Aladdin Riayat Shah II, and on his death he left the sovereignty in favour of his nephew, Raja Abdul Jalil, son of his sister, Raja Fatimah, who was married to Raja Omar of Pahang, (vide GT6)

03. Sultan Abdul Jalil I, son of Raja Omar, succeeded his uncle in 1559 A.C. - 966 AH. He was only a child and died young, (vide GT9)

04. Sultan Ala Jala Abdul Jalil II, Raja Omar, whose wife was Raja Fatimah, succeeded his son Sultan Abdul Jalil I. (vide GT9)

05. Sultan Aladdin Riayat Shah III, Raja Mansor, son of Sultan Ala Jala Abdul Jalil II., succeeded his father in 1591 AC - 999 AH, but as he was still a child, his cousin, Raja Abdullah, son of Sultan Muzafar Shah III., acted as Regent, until he came of age. (vide GT10)

06. Sultan Abdul Jalil III., succeeded his father Sultan Aladdin Riayat Shah III in 1624 AC - 1033 AH. (vide GT 15)

07. Sultan Ibrahim Shah I., ascended the throne in succession to his father, Sultan Abdul Jalil III., in 1671 AC - 1080 AH. (vide GT21)

08. Sultan Mahmud Shah II., succeeded his father, Sultan Ibrahim Shah I., in 1682 AC - 1001 AH and was assassinated in 1699 AC - 1109 AH. (vide GT28)

As this Sultan had no issue the sovereignty reverted to the House of the Bendahara, in fact the original descendant of Sultan Aladdin Riayat Shah II., founder of Johore.

09. Sultan Abdul Jalil IV, son of Tun Habib, Dato Bendahara Padang Saujana Johore, on the death of Sultan Mahmud II, ascended the throne of Johore in 1699 AC - 1109 AH, (vide GT 20).

Johore was invaded and defeated by Raja Kechik of Siak and Menangkabau in 1719 AC - 1129 AH. The Sultan's families were taken prisoners, and the Sultan himself escaped to Pahang where he died. His oldest son Tun Abas accompanied him. This ends the first period of Johore.

JOHORE SECOND EPOCH
RIAU (JL)

10. Raja Sulaiman, son of Sultan Abdul Jalil IV, assisted by certain Bugis Rajas, sons of Upu Tenderi Burong, defeated Raja Kechik of Menangkabau at Riau and he was then installed as Sultan of Johore and Lingga in 1724 AC (1134 AH), whilst the descendants of the Upu held the rank of Yamtuan, (vide GT 22).

11. Sultan Abdul Jalil V, succeeded his father Sultan Sulaiman, (vide GT 29).

12. Sultan Mahmud III, succeeded his father Sultan Abdul Jalil V. He had two sons, Hussain and Abdul Rahman, the later was chosen as Sultan of Lingga while the former was proclaimed as Sultan of Johore, at Singapore, (vide GT 36). Thus Johore was separated from Lingga.

JOHORE THIRD EPOCH
SINGAPORE (JS)

13. Sultan Hussain Mohamed Shah, son of Sultan Mohamed III, was installed as Sultan of Johore in 1819 by Temenggong Abdul Rahman in the presence of Sir Stamford Raffles at Singapore. The Temenggong died at Telok Blanga Singapore in 1825 and the Sultan died in 1840 at Tranquerah, Malacca, (vide GT 40).

14. Sultan Ali Iskandar Shah, son of Sultan Hussain Shah, succeeded his father, in 1840. He then ceded the sovereignty of Johore (with exception of Kesang) to Dato Temenggong Ibrahim son of Dato Temenggong Abdul Rahman, descendant of Sultan of Sultan Abdul Jalil IV in 1855. He ceded Kesang to Maharaja of Johore (Sultan Sir Abu Bakar) in 1877. He died in the same year at Ombai Malacca, (vide GT 45). This ends the third period.

JOHORE FOURTH EPOCH
JOHORE BAHRU (JB)

15. Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim, son of Dato Temenggong Abdul Rahman obtained possession of Johore from Sultan Ali Iskandar Shah by Treaty executed before the Governor at Singapore in 1855 and died in 1862. In his respect for Sultan Ali, who was still alive at the time, he did not assume the title of Sultan (vide GT 51).

16. Sultan Sir Abu Bakar succeeded his father, Temenggong Ibrahim as Sovereign Ruler of Johore in 1862, crowned in 1886, died in London and was interred at Johore Bahru in 1895. (vide GT 55)

17. Sultan Sir Ibrahim born on 17th September 1873, succeeded his father Sultan Sir Abu Bakar on 17th September 1895 and was crowned in 02nd November 1895, (vide GT 61).
